End In Sight...

Slowly but surely the light at the end of the tunnel is becoming clearer through the haze of all the law school bullshit that 1L's have to deal during our future profession’s version of fraternity hazing. The LRW (Legal Research and Writing) memo is done, Torts, Contracts, and Elements are over with only my Civ Pro exam standing between me and two straight weeks of mindless activity that will include unfathomable amounts of sleep and insalubrious alcohol consumption aimed at removing any thoughts of Intentional Torts and Unilateral Contracts from every crevasse in my mind.  Unfortunately, that will have to wait until 12:01 pm on Wednesday, when I walk out of my Civ Pro exam and crack one of the cold beers that will be stowed in a cooler that I strategically place right outside the doorway of my classroom.   My toughest challenge for the next two days will be quelling the rising sense of apathy that is creeping up inside me.  The last exam is always the toughest one to motivate yourself for because your mind starts wandering passed it, imagining how great it will feel to be done.   This was evidenced today as I hardly managed to pull myself off the couch to do much more than grab a drink from the fridge or check my fantasy football team.  Hopefully I'll fight through it tomorrow and go into break with a feeling of satisfaction, knowing that I haven't botched any of my exams too badly.

On Saturday I took my Contracts exam, which was an academic marathon; a four and a half hour essay exam which left my hand feeling like rubber and my mind unable to focus or clearly concentrate on anything for several hours.  On the bright side, my favorite aunt and uncle from my dad's family were in town for several days and I was finally able to meet up with them for dinner after my exam.  With my mom's family living in Germany, my parents in DC, and my dad's fam centered around the New York area, it was nice spending time with some of my relatives.  Most of my meals here have revolved around PF Chang's, Baja Fresh, Pizzeria Sole, and whatever food I'm not too tired to whip up, so going out for an elegant and leisurely meal was just what I needed to recharge.  We went down to Miracle Mile, a fast growing strip of nice restaurants and wedding boutiques (weird combo, huh?) in Coral Gables and ate at Ortanique, a restaurant that fuses classical French cuisine with the tropical flavors that South Florida is famous for.  The result was the best meal that I've had in four months in Miami and probably one of the finest dining experiences that I've ever enjoyed. If any of you are ever down here and have a couple hundred bucks (good food isn't cheep you know) to spare then you should definitely check it out.  I strongly recommend the tuna and the crème brule ;)

On a side note, the Redskins game tonight absolutely sucked.  As usual we played well enough to win but managed to screw it up.  So not only do I have to deal with four friends at school that are diehard Eagles fans, but I also have to spend one day this week wearing a hat from Terrell Owens's website that sports his logo on the front and www.terrellowens.com on the back. The only thing more conceivably painful would be wearing a Red Sox or Dallas Cowboys hat.  In the future I'll have to pick my bets more carefully, using my brain instead of my heart. 

Well that's enough writing for now.  I have to hit the sack with a full day of reading about Personal Jurisdiction and Compulsory Joinder to look forward too.  I fly home on Thursday so hopefully I'll see most of you then...
